Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

What do I get when I register?

You receive 1 attempt at the exam and online access to the XPeriencED (PMR) or GMetrix (MOS) learning system.  If you purchase the +Rewrite option, you receive 1 additional attempt in case you do not pass the exam the first time.

Access to the XPerienced system expires in August.  Access to the GMetrix system expires in March.

Is it possible to register for more than one exam?

Yes.  PMR is a single exam, however, MOS offers 1 each of Excel, Excel Expert, Word, Word Expert, Outlook, PowerPoint.  You must select each option separately.

If you register for an expert exam, you should not also register for the non-expert version.

Check with Microsoft to see if you can get an Associate designation by completing 3 exams.

Why expert vs. non-expert?

The expert exams are more complex and involve more functionality and functions (VLOOKUPS, Pivots, etc.).  The non-expert versions of exams for Excel and Work test the basic features of the software.

When are exams offered?

Exams are offered frequently throughout the year.  You will receive information about available dates once you register.  If you are part of an institution, the exam dates will be scheduled according to semester.

Typically exams are held at 6PM on a weekday, or 11AM, 1PM or 3PM on a Saturday.

How long do I have to complete the exam?

Depending on what time you register, you can have up to 10 months.  For example, if you register for the PMR exam in October, you have until the following August to complete it.  If you register for the MOS exam in May, you have until the following March to complete it.  If you register later in the year, see how close you are to August or March.

Generally give yourself 2-3 weeks to go over the material before you do the exam, unless you have expertise or have taken a course.

Can I get a refund?

No, we cannot issue any refunds (since we are keeping the prices low).  You can transfer your registration to another student.  To do so, we will need the full name and email address of the other student.

Are there any in-person classes?

No.  Learning happens through the XPeriencED (PMR) or GMetrix (MOS) online systems.  Although, you may have taken a course related to the exam.  You can also access many helpful materials on Youtube and the internet in general.

Where do exams take place?

Exams take place in-person, on campus at your institution.  In cases, where a professor at your institution is conducting the exam during their class time, other arrangements may be possible.

How long is the exam?

All exams are 50 minutes in length.  It takes about 15 minutes at the beginning to get started and 5 minutes at the end to wrap things up.

What do I get once I successfully pass an exam?

You will receive a digital badge (for LinkedIN) from Microsoft or the Project Management Institute.  You will also receive a digital copy of an official certificate.  You can make colour copies of this at your local print shop.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

You can register and pay for another attempt.  The second attempt can be done after 24 hours.  If you purchase a +Rewrite option, you will get your second attempt at no additional cost.

What happens with the +Rewrite if I pass the first time.

Unfortunately, we cannot issue a refund for the extra fee.  The +Rewrite option includes a substantial discount already.

What if I do not show up to an exam I selected a date for?

We require a minimum of 48 hours notice to change a date.  If you do not appear at your exam, your registration will be cancelled without a refund.

Do I have to create any online accounts?

Yes.  There is no additional cost.  You need to create a Certiport account.

If you register for the PMR exam, you need to create an XPeriencED account.

If you register for the MOS exam, you need to create a GMetrix (CertPrep) account.

Can I use as MAC (apple) computer?

You can do the actual exam using a Mac.  Make sure that you test that your computer will work with the system.  Try the download in advance (this is a test only).  Download the file, then open it.  You can then close it.  If  you get an error message - click RUN.  When asked for a code, type in 123456, it will not work, then close and click Yes to close the window.

Using GMetrix on a MAC requires a special download.  Please contact GMetric support if you are having issues.
